Little Messes Everywhere

Tonight, a friend from yoga taught her first class after earning her certification. When I saw her name on the sub list, I knew I had to rearrange my work to be there, so I did. My biggest takeaway from the class (besides it being a kick-ass class) was, “You are not the same as you were before you took this class.” That made me think more about it. Every morning, we wake up “thinking”, “knowing”, and “planning” how our day will go, but by the time we get home, how many times have we had to adjust?

Last night before bed, I hung up my TRX and set my alarm for 6:15, “planning” to do 30 minutes of TRX before work. But around 4 a.m., I heard my son up sick. He had a fever, so I asked if he wanted me to stay on the couch with him. If you’re a mom of an almost 18-year-old and they say yes, you change your plans right away. I grabbed my pillow, my blanket, two cats, and my almost 18-year-old, and we all slept on the couch. When my alarm went off at 6:15, I just laughed and hit snooze. Could I have gotten up? Sure. Did I? No. The person I thought I would be that morning had already changed.

Every day, we have to adjust. Sometimes we learn something new, make decisions, or change our plans. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your day and notice all the times you had to adapt. Think about how those moments made you a little different. Before bed, consider what new things you learned today. I learn something new most days from my clients, and I always let them know when they teach me something or show me a new perspective.

As humans, we need to grow. Growing means you’re not the same person you once were. It doesn’t have to be hard or boring. Sometimes, it’s just about living in the moment and noticing how you’ve changed, even since you started reading this.
